Have you noticed how Montreal’s restaurants are increasingly serving up their own versions of a weekend brunch? We have; and we love it. But sometimes, we’d much rather stay in and avoid the long line-ups. In those times, what can we prepare that is restaurant quality or better?
The answer is easy according to Olive + Gourmando’s Baker on the Go, our favourite baker in town who is generously sharing his great bread knowledge with us and with you. He suggests inviting family and close friends to take part in a bread-making workshop in our kitchen. What’s on the menu? He suggests warm currant scones, a big loaf of sweet challah bread and some rustic buns.
No worries if your kitchen isn’t picture perfect; it’s all about learning how to transform any humble home into a top-notch bakery. We learn to about our ingredients, to gently knead the dough and get tips and trade secrets to master the perfect crust-to-crumb ratio.
Three hours later, we know how to prepare the delicious brunch menu, and we’re savouring it at the table. Talk about having your cake and eating it too! With this workshop under our belt, our standards for good bread are through the roof.
